Diploma Year 2 Public Show

"One of Bertolt Brecht's most acute observations on class and capitalism" Star Tribune.

Herr Puntila and his Man Matti

By Bertolt Brecht

Nightingale Theatre, 29-30 Surrey Street Brighton BN1 3PA
8th - 12th December 2009

Directed by Joanna Rosenfeld

Bertolt Brecht wrote this satire while exiled in Finland in 1940 and directed the world premiere in Zurich in 1947. He regarded this his best "folk play" and it remains a facinating study on the treatment of humanity by the upper classes.

Puntila, a boorish land-owner whose whims and mood are defined by the amount of alcohol in his system. turns from a heartless capitalist into an ineffectual communist when drunk, playing with the lives of his workers and creating havoc for Eva, his daughter. Puntila is set against his chauffeur Matti, a wise and steadfast working class man and the object of desire for the naive Eva.

DATES: 8th - 12th December 2009
TIME: 7.45pm (Doors 7.15pm)

Foundation in Acting Public Show

The Foundation public show SOLD OUT for its 3 night run at The Nightingale Theatre and gained a great review - Read the whole review here

"Without the use of scenery, and barely any props, students from Brighton's Academy Of Creative Training relied on powerful music and imaginative acting for dramatic effect.
Hermia (Rachel Young) and her lover Lysander (Matt Eden) flee from Athens to avoid Hermia's impending marriage to her father's chosen suitor, Demetrius (Robert Knowles).
However, chocolate-munching Helena is also in love with Demetrius and Clare Burt effectively captured Helena's naive, self-deprecating pursuit of her spurning beau, who only retorts: "I am sick when I look on thee".
Gareth Clark was hilarious as Nick Bottom, and Fiona McGonigle was bewitching as his seductress, the Fairy Queen, Titania.
Director Ralf Higgins said: "This dream is closer to a nightmare; the course of true love never did run smooth, especially when death threats are issued willynilly and your beloved goes bi-polar on you."

The Argus - 16th July 2009

A Midsummer Night's Dream By William Shakespeare
Nightingale Theatre, 29-30 Surrey Street, Brighton BN1 3PA. 14th - 16th July 2009

The Crucible

by Arthur Miller
Pavilion Theatre, New Road, Brighton
28th - 30th March 2009
Directed by Steve North

Two Year Diploma students public production of The Crucible sold out for its run at the Pavilion Theatre, receiving much praise and good reviews.

"Motivation, dedication and hard work stand any production in better stead than fancy gimmicks, soap stars or other electronic wizardry. Add to the mix a highly competent director (Mr North) and you have a production well worth watching.

The people of Brighton voted with their feet and the production was sold out. It takes much more than just friends and family to do that in this theatre. Sarah Barfoot (Abigail Williams) who was brimming with a sexual tension that more than filled the stage and Amr Mallassi (John Proctor) are my "two" to watch out for here.

They stood out a mile in terms of talent and stage presence despite being amongst very good company indeed. I suggest they will have great careers ahead of them."

Howard Young, Theatre Editor,
The Brighton Magazine
