Help us keep independent actor training and theatre-making affordable in Brighton

ACT has been training actors in Brighton since 1997. Alongside our courses and classes, the Lantern Theatre provides an intimate home for student productions, visiting companies, new work and local audiences.

ACT and the Lantern are operated by Academy of Creative Training Ltd. Although we are a limited company rather than a charity or formally constituted not-for-profit organisation, our longstanding ethos is to keep training fees, theatre tickets and space hire as affordable as possible.

Financial and practical support helps us continue that commitment while meeting the real costs of maintaining our theatre and studios.

Make a contribution

Your contribution could help us:

  • Keep training fees and theatre tickets affordable.

  • Offer supported or bursary places where possible.

  • Maintain and improve the Lantern Theatre and our studios.

  • Replace lighting, sound, seating and other essential equipment.

  • Support student productions, visiting artists and new theatre work.

You can make a one-off contribution or choose to support us regularly. Contributions are used wherever they are most needed across ACT and the Lantern Theatre.

3% Cover the Fee

Thank you. Every contribution, whatever its size, helps support the work we do.

Donate plays or theatrical equipment

We may also be able to make good use of:

  • Clean, complete copies of published plays, particularly multiple copies of the same text that can be used in classes and rehearsals.

  • Working theatrical lighting, sound, AV or studio equipment.

Our storage space is extremely limited, so please contact us before bringing anything to the building. Tell us what you have, its quantity and condition, and include photographs where possible.

We cannot accept unsolicited props, costumes, scenery, furniture, general household items or equipment requiring repair—we already have more than enough clutter!

Volunteer with us

ACT and the Lantern are small organisations, and additional help can make a real difference—particularly during Brighton Fringe and busy production periods.

Volunteer opportunities may include:

  • Front of house and welcoming audiences.

  • Helping during festivals and productions.

  • Painting, decorating and practical maintenance.

  • Technical theatre support.

  • Photography, design, administration or other specialist help.

Volunteering is flexible, and there is no obligation to accept particular dates or make a regular commitment. We may not always have an immediate opportunity that matches your interests, but we would be very pleased to hear from you.

Where duties permit, front-of-house volunteers can usually watch the performance, and a complimentary drink is provided.
