the two week workshop - two week intensive acting course

Running monthly, it is often the first step for people who are curious about acting, considering further training, or simply looking to explore performance in a supportive environment.
Many students join with no previous acting or drama experience at all. The workshop is equally suitable for absolute beginners and for those who wish to build on earlier performance experience.

This course is about exploration, learning and enjoyment, not auditions or pressure.

feedback & next steps
On completion of The Workshop each tutor provides a written evaluation of every student’s progress and potential within their specialist discipline. Students who want feedback can book a one-to-one feedback session with the Principal or Head of Acting.
These sessions offer a chance to talk through your experience on the course, ask questions, and receive honest, constructive feedback drawn from the different areas of training covered during the workshop.
For those interested in continuing their training, The Workshop is often the first step towards ACT’s Foundation and Diploma courses. Completing the workshop allows us to get to know you and your work, and helps ensure that any further training is the right fit for you.

Will I be the oldest or youngest?
Probably not. There is usually a broad range of ages and backgrounds on the workshop. We have no upper age limit. Participants must be 18 years or older or over 16 with parental/guardian permission.
Do I need previous acting experience?
No, the workshop is designed as an introduction to Actor Training for those who have no experience and as a refresher to those that have some experience.
Do I have to attend the first session?
Yes, all participants must attend the first session as this is a very important part of the workshop and introduces everyone to each other as well as the work and the spaces.
Will I have to perform something on the first night?
No, the opening session is a very gentle introduction to the work we do and a chance for everyone on the workshop to get to know each other and feel comfortable.
What happens if I can’t attend the workshop I booked?
If you are ill, or cannot attend the workshop for any reason, then you can transfer to another workshop. However, you can only do this once without losing the deposit payment. Notice that you cannot attend must be given at least 24 hrs prior to the start of the workshop otherwise you will lose the deposit.
Will there be lots of scripts to read or learn – I am dyslexic/ working in a second language?
There are some sessions on working with scripts, but there is plenty of time to go over these and you will get support from the tutors. We designed the workshop so that all the work takes place on the night, so there is no ‘homework’ or ‘lines to be learnt’.
Will I have to sing?
Not unless you really want to! There are no singing classes on the workshop.
Is movement a dance class?
No, Movement is about how you use your physicality as an actor – so yes you will be moving about, but it is not a dance class.
