Lantern Arts Hub - Daytime Performing Arts Classes
ACT Brighton and The Lantern Theatre have received funding from the Department for Culture and Health to create The Lantern Arts Hub and run a programme of daytime performing arts classes.
We are bringing our many years of expertise running professional actor training classes and courses to the Brighton community. These classes are open to the local community especially those who are in marginalised groups.
Come and get creative with our new programme of daytime community performing arts classes! No Upper Age Limit, Classes for Mature Learners. Meet for coffee and cake, before or after classes, in our friendly Cafe at 77 St James’s Street
There are a mixture of courses (6 week blocks) and classes (4 week blocks) - some of which offer drop ins.

ACT 50+ is designed for people aged 50 and over. Classes are offered at a special community rate of £9 per teaching hour, helping to keep regular daytime acting affordable and accessible.
FREE TASTER SESSION – 4 November
Our next six-week block begins on 4 November, with the first session FREE to try.
Advance booking is required for the free taster session.
You can then choose to continue for the remaining five weeks, or book the full six-week block in advance for the price of five sessions.
Classes are normally booked as a six-week block. Weekly attendance may be available by prior arrangement.

ACT 50+ is designed for people aged 50 and over. Classes are offered at a special community rate of £9 per teaching hour, helping to keep regular daytime acting affordable and accessible.
The Intermediate class works progressively across each six-week course, exploring a particular text, subject or theatre practitioner. Participants therefore enrol for the complete block.

Course Fees:
Our daytime classes and courses all run at £10 per taught hour, so the total depends on how long the class is and how many weeks it runs for.
4 week block of 1.5hrs is £60.00
4 week block of 2 hrs is £80.00
6 week block of 1.5hrs is £90.00
6 week block of 2hrs is £120.00
Drop In sessions are £15 for a 1.5hr class and £20 for a 2hr class (where available).
We are not wheelchair accessible.

Will I be the oldest or youngest?
Probably not. There is usually a broad range of ages and backgrounds on all LAH & ACT Courses. We have no upper age limit. Participants must be 18 years or older or overDo I need previous acting experience?
No, our courses are designed as an introduction for those who have no experience and as a refresher to those that have some experience.
Do I have to attend the first session?
Yes, all participants must attend the first session as this is a very important part of the course and introduces everyone to each other as well as the work and the spaces.
What happens if I can’t attend the course I booked?
If you are ill, or cannot attend the start of the course for any reason, then you can transfer to another course. However, you can only do this once without losing the deposit payment. Notice that you cannot attend must be given at least 24 hrs prior to the start of the course otherwise you will lose the fees paid.If I start the course and then I don’t like it can I get my money back?
Unfortunately not. Unless there are exceptional circumstances if you start and course and then withdraw due to your own reasons then you cannot get a refund. -

Online application is only open to persons aged 18 years or over.
In the event of illness or that you are unable to attend your specified dates you may nominate to transfer to a later course. Please note you can only transfer once without losing your fee. A second transfer will require a new fee payment.
Previous acting experience is not necessary to participate but it will help us if you can supply details of any previous acting/drama experience and/or training that you have.
We do not share your details with any 3rd parties.
All students must abide by the ACT / Lantern Code of Conduct & School Rules.
Code of ConductStudents are asked to be punctual and prepared for their classes.
The Academy requires that all students should help to create an environment in which diversity is accepted, respected and encouraged.
We will always work to resolve any issues you may have. Please talk to your tutor in the first instance, or if this is not appropriate, contact our Brighton Office.
Certain forms of behaviour will not be tolerated under any circumstances: bullying, physical violence or verbal abuse (racism, sexism, homophobia etc) of any kind, stealing or vandalism. We wish to ensure the safety and wellbeing of both students and staff.
Any major infractions to the code of conduct may result in the exclusion of a student and we will not refund any fees in such cases.
School Rules
Students are not allowed in areas marked for staff only.
Food or drink (except water) is not to be consumed in the drama/working spaces.
No chewing or bubble gum at any time please.
Students should wear loose comfortable clothing and flat soled shoes (trainers) so that they are free to move about. Movement sessions may involve some floor work or bare feet. Also, please do not wear excessive or large items of jewellery or large buckled or studded belts etc as these are a potential safety issues.
Mobile phones must be switched off during classes.
Please do not bring valuable items into the school as we cannot be responsible should they be lost, stolen or damaged.
Always be aware of other student’s safety during active drama sessions.
Accidents or breakages must be reported immediately.
Students must not interfere with equipment particularly electrical or large scenery.
No alcohol is to be brought into or consumed on school property.
Smoking is not allowed in the building.
We will inform the police and immediately exclude anyone found in possession of, or using, any illegal drugs. This policy is for the health and safety of all persons using our buildings.

Course Fees:
Daytime Lantern Arts Hub courses are £72 per block (six weeks of 90 minute classes).
Concessions £48 (Over 60’s, Disabled*, Students, Universal credit). You must bring proof of your concession to the first class.
